New 6-Lane Highway Unites Noida and Delhi, Enhancing NCR Travel
The government is embarking on a significant infrastructure development project aimed at improving connectivity for people residing in Delhi-NCR. Nitin Gadkari, the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister has revealed fresh details about the new highway, highlighting its benefits and purpose.
As part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana, the government is developing a 6-lane highway that will span from Jaitpur-Pushta Road to the junction near the Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Expressway (KMP Expressway). This 50-kilometre-long stretch is strategically designed to connect Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, encompassing key areas such as Noida, Faridabad, Ballabhgarh, and Palwal.
Objectives and Cost
The project, estimated to cost Rs 2,627 crore, aims to significantly reduce travel time between Noida, Delhi, and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway by 3-4 hours. By creating a parallel route to the Agra and Gurgaon canals through a green belt, the new highway will enhance transportation efficiency and convenience for commuters.
Latest Updates
A major breakthrough has occurred in the construction of a highway aimed at easing traffic congestion between Delhi and neighbouring Faridabad and Noida. The Delhi Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, has given approval for the transfer of 1.11 acres of land to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for the development of a six-lane highway. This land, measuring 4,235 square metres, will be transferred from the irrigation and flood control department of the Delhi government to NHAI. The transfer of this land is expected to expedite the construction process and contribute to improving traffic flow in the region.
According to sources, the construction of the access-controlled link connecting the DND Flyway to Sohna has been divided into three packages. All three packages are projected to be completed by April 2024.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has planned the first package, spanning 9 kilometres from the DND Flyway to Jaitpur, as an elevated corridor along the Yamuna. This section will exclusively cater to expressway traffic.
The second package, covering a distance of 25 kilometres from Jaitpur to Ballabhgarh, will utilize the existing bypass and be transformed into a six-lane signal-free stretch for expressway traffic. To accommodate local traffic, the NHAI is constructing three-lane service roads on both sides.
The third package will connect Ballabhgarh to Sohna, completing the entire link.
The NHAI's strategic division of the project into packages and the expected completion timeline indicate a concerted effort to enhance connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation between the DND Flyway, Faridabad, and Sohna regions.
